Next Radio Practice

January 21st, 2019

2MCM Radio Practice Friends,

Our next radio practice will be February 9, 2019, again at Spreckels Lake, Golden Gate Park, 36th Ave. and Fulton St., from 1000 hours to 1200 hours.

Our first radio practice of 2019, January 12th, was excellent!  We had no rain, there were sunny blue skies, with no wind, and the green benches were dry.

12 radio operators joined me – a good mix of new and experienced radio operators.

We first talked about sending messages, programming frequencies, and then formed teams to send and receive messages.  We were done by 1200 hours.

Join me next month, February 9th..  You will talk on your radio, receive (copy) messages and send messages (traffic).  Experienced radio operators will be there to answer questions and help you with your radio and radio protocols.

Bring your radio with a fully charged battery, it’s operating manual, a clipboard, paper, pencil/pen.  Dress for the predictably unpredictable San Francisco weather – bring two layers, hat and sunscreen.

I hope to see you at the Lake,

Peter McElmury AA6SF

Next Radio Practice January 12th

January 6th, 2019

2MCM Radio Practice Friends,

Our next radio practice, and first practice of 2019, will be Saturday, January 12th, at Spreckels Lake, Golden Gate Park, from 1000 hours to 1200 hours.

Weather permitting (no rain) “Plan A”, at the Lake we will talk on our radios, help each other, send and receive messages and be on our way by 1200 hours.

As we all should know by now, the weather on Friday night is not always the weather we will see on Saturday morning.

If it is raining Saturday morning “Plan B”, using the W6PW repeater, check into a 2MCM Net on 145.150/-/DCS664.  Let’s see what we can talk about from our own QTHs (locations).  I will be at the Lake, operating from my truck.

Now how do I segue into being prepared for an emergency/disaster?

If you are a NERT, is your NERT card red?  Then you really need to get re-certified.

If it is green, look at the expiration date.  We need to re-certify every 2 years!

If you are not an SF NERT you should be.  NERT needs licensed radio operators!  The SF NERT Ham Communications Team has monthly radio classes for us.

And we all need to know about being prepared and how to help our neighbors!

2019 – A YEAR FULL OF POSSIBILITIES. …LET’S GO EXPLORING.   (Borrowed without permission from the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip, December 31, 1995, final comic strip.)

Sort of inspiring, don’t you think?

73 – Best Regards,
